Acupuncture for Depression - Serving the Orlando Area

Most people have experienced depression in one form or another. When we are balanced physically and emotionally we can easily bounce back from a depressed state and get on with life. But prolonged feelings of sadness, discouragement and hopelessness can be debilitating.

Acupuncturists are aware of the relationship between our body and our emotions. When we are emotionally upset, our body is disrupted.  At the same time, when we have physical problems, our emotions are affected.  When these disruptions persist, a state of stagnant Qi (chee) arises. Qi is the energy or the power that animates and supports the functions of the body. Eventually, disharmony in the body arises, and this imbalance may lead to depression.

In Oriental Medicine, the organs of the body are associated with specific emotions.  When emotions become imbalanced, the health of the organs becomes vulnerable. Knowing this connection, we can see that depression can be linked directly to the health of the organs.  Also, by strengthening the vulnerable organs, we can address and heal the underlying depression.

When there is an imbalance with the Lungs, the emotional symptoms are grief, sadness and detachment. A Spleen disorder would manifest as worry, intense focus on one topic and excessive mental work.  When the Heart is out of balance we might find a lack of enthusiasm and vitality, mental restlessness, depression, insomnia and despair.  A Kidney imbalance may manifest as fearful, insecurity, and weak willpower.  Finally, Liver emotional symptoms are anger, resentment, frustration, irritability and bitterness.  With depression, the organs most commonly implicated are the Heart, Kidney and Lungs, though any of the organs may play a role.

Your acupuncturist will take a complete health history, and from this, will develop a treatment plan tailored to your specific symptoms and signs. This plan will aim to activate the movement of Qi throughout the entire body, as well as addressing the root causes of the underlying imbalances.

Acupuncture for depression is used to relieve the pain and discomfort associated with depression. Acupuncture helps us achieve balance and control, comfort and focus, and joy in living. We have a lot of potential in our bodies but at times it can be misguided. The needles are very slender. They are about the thickness of two human hairs. Treatments are always carried out with sterile and disposable needles. They are used once and then discarded. All needles are approved by the FDA. Most insertions are just beneath the skin`s surface which enables the skilled acupuncture practitioner to place a needle with little or no sensation. We have great success in helping clients apply acupuncture to help with their depression.
